Windows are in!

On request from G, the upstairs windows are 'crankable.'

Window in the living room.

Insulation has been smoothed out where the drywall will go.

We have Drywall!!! It is in piles all over the house, but it is here and ready to go!

Now that the windows are in, The Fitzhughs can work on the siding.

The ceiling and arch above the front door is almost finished.

Things are going up so fast! I love it!

We also discovered exactly why G asked for 'crankable' windows....and if sneaking out on the roof to read her book is the reason for her request then we are just fine with that. I have a feeling that one day this will not be the reason!!!

The storage building has brick! Both the brick and the mortar are holding moisture right now, so it looks darker in this picture than it will once it has dried. Husband is drinking Pepto and chasing it with Rol-aids until he is convinced it is the look we wanted.

I apologize for the glare, but this set up amazed me. I'm glad they make a contraption to hold the brick...I wouldn't want to keep bending over either!

Cheers to this pick up contraption too! (Wish I'd invented it!)

Diva has quite the climb if she plans to try to sneak out.

Siding is going up on her side too.

Electricians are wiring away.

Oh, and check out the view from Diva's window. She has the perfect view of the sunset!

The mac-daddy window in the foyer is installed too.

Tuesday

Another thing I'm bad at...pressing the 'saved' button rather than 'publish post.' I wrote this on Tuesday and thought it was posted. Whoops! Here ya go:

This week is off to a wonderful start. We have the framers, the electricians, the heating and cooling guys, and the brick guys all there! AND The Dry Wall is being loaded in! I'm sure our neighbors are loving us right about now! (sorry to those of you with tiny babies!)

As soon as these big trucks are out of the way, I'll be back with better pictures of the action! Now we're off to meet my parents who will be coming for the house tour and to stay the night with us.

Things that should never be in your house

I'll confess, I'm a list maker. I do love a good list. Especially when that list is hand written on an actual sheet of paper so that it can be crossed off once you're finished. Doesn't it just make you feel good to physically cross something out? Delete just doesn't have the same "umph." I feel it is now time to share with you this weekend's (non-handwritten) list. I'd like to call this:

Things That Should Never Be in Your House

1.) little green tree frogs

First of all, little fella, there's a good reason for you to be called a tree frog and it has absolutely nothing to do with my kitchen canister! Second of all, Polka Dot gets really jealous.

2.) Bats

I don't care how soft and fluffy the new insulation looks OR that I haven't moved in this house yet, you are not welcome!!!

...unless you're paying for a heated pool, then I might think about it.

Waiting

Do you ever just wonder why something has to happen? What purpose does a particular event serve? Perfect example…grad school. I was going to finish in 4 semesters and graduate in August. However, one class didn’t pick up enough students, yada yada yada, and was taken off the schedule until the next semester. While I was devastated at this new change of my plans (and financial burden it created), I now realize the purpose of that 'disaster' was for me to stay put long enough to meet this guy.

Fortunately I didn’t have to wait too long before realizing that there was a purpose to my extra semester. But what happens when you don’t get an answer right away? ...you just sit and wonder. And wait. And sigh. And stare at the wall. And decide you should start exercising. And maybe decide to learn something new...maybe how to cook...quickly realizing your fear of the kitchen, change cooking to sewing. Then sit back and wonder....how is it that I can resist a whole bag of Oreos in the pantry, but I can’t even be patient in real life situations? I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason and that God has a perfect plan for each of us, but that certainly doesn’t make it any easier for my extremely-impatient-human-self to accept. sigh............

Snow in September?!?!

Winter comes early at the house, or so it seems from the 'snow' covered garage.

Team Insulation has started, and this just might be the coolest process yet. (other than the mess it makes, of course)

Oh, and the windows are in....more on that later.

So, The Insulators have sprayed the ceiling with this foamy-looking stuff. Can't you just imagine them walking around in hazmat suits with ghost-buster style backpacks and hoses spraying the ceilings?!?

That might not be what they actually look like, but I like to think they do. Since my j.o.b. interferes with actually watching these worker bees, how do I know they don't wear all that!

This side view of their stopping point gives you a nice look at just how thick this fluff really is.

(and I hope it comes off the floor pretty easily!)

Although it looks soft and fluffy, it is quite the opposite. I'm sure it shall keep us nice and toasty in the wintertime :)

I really hate that I didn't take off work to be here to watch it being sprayed. No one told me how cool it would be. This is the area over the garage.

PS-there is a window in this hole now. Stay tuned!!!

The Fitzhughs were hard at work on the porch ceilings while The Insulators were spraying inside.

The wood really is all the same color...not sure why it looks different in these pictures?!?!

Goodbye, August!

Well, the hiatus is finally over! Look how busy this place was yesterday!

Let me back up and recap the final days of August....We picked up the front door on the 25th and... 

 it is installed and being stained today!!!

In other door news...THEY'RE IN TOO! The sunroom looks more like a room and less like a porch.

 

I have a feeling that this area will be home to lots of fun fiestas!

Husband has big plans for some fun stained glass work. Can't wait to show you what he has in mind!

This will one day be the wall of the office. Currently you can see through it to the master bathroom.

We have the beginning stages of a door to the master closet.

The closet is to the left and our bedroom is to the right.

Let there be lights! Can lights, that is. You really can't tell from this angle just how high it is, but trust me! I walked in one day and there was a ladder balanced on a few narrow boards on top of some scaffolding. No kidding! I hope he will come back to change these light bulbs. In fact, I think I'll just never use those lights...maybe just on special occasions. When they're blown, they're blown people!

The fireplace (although covered) is also here. I confess, he's been here a while, I just keep forgetting to tell you about him.

We also made a tiny adjustment in the loft area. There used to be a post that went all the way to the ceiling at the end of this short wall at the top of the stairs . I could just see this post covered in dirty little finger prints (I know who is living up there) and looking gross, so I begged for it to be changed to just one short wall. Thanks Fitzhughs! I don't think we'll regret it at all.

With the door delay behind us, now things can really start to move along. We met with Electrician to discuss the location of the outlets and light switches and he is hard at work on the wiring process.

Husband's 'little' storage building project is petitioning for its own area code.

It has a shed...

...and an attic.

You know what this means, right?

All of his 'stuff' contained in one nice area that is not the garage!!!!

On the way to the house that day, I also saw an eagle! I screamed  asked politely for Dear Husband to pull over because I was certain that I saw an eagle on the ground and I needed him to witness it too. He pretended to believe me and turned around. Sure enough, there was an eagle looking creature on the ground. However, as we got closer to him, he decided to fly up into a tree. We stalked him to get a closer peek and also to discover that....

he, in fact, was a HAWK. Oh, well...maybe next time we'll see an eagle.
