home·com·ing [hohm-kuhm-ing] –noun: a return to one's home; arrival at home.
Our Church had its annual homecoming service on October 31st.
We had a wonderful service with many out of town guests that came back to celebrate their roots. The service was led by our pastor (below on the right) and the guest speaker was "Uncle Wayne" (on the left). Recognize him from our wedding pictures? He also happens to be the pastor that married us :)
Mr. Tatum was in charge of a brief update of the church and welcome of out of town guests. Well, after about 5 minutes, he told us that he was only supposed to give a 3 minute speech and that he wasn't halfway done yet! Not only did he welcome the guests, he also told stories about some of them! He is quite the character and certainly entertained me! I want to be like him when I grow up!
A synonym for Homecoming should be "potluck," because every member brings a covered dish and we have lunch in the fellowship hall after church. This is Southern Hospitality at its finest!
Diva and Mimi didn't mind posing by the desserts table.
This church just happens to be the church where my husband grew up. His mom grew up going to this church and her parents were also members of this church. Needless to say, homecoming is quite the reunion for this family.
Then things turned into a family portrait session:
Mimi and Grandpa with all of their kids and grand kids:
Even the sisters had a photo shoot:
G decided the fern made a great WIG:
Diva's 'senior portrait' pose:
Mimi and her children...
...and her grandchildren.
What a perfect day! It was wonderful to see everyone that came back home to visit!
