Speaking of Doors...

I just remembered that I never posted pictures of the door unit between the living room and outdoor living area. Shame on me!

I still haven't figured out the best way to photograph stained glass so that you can see all the details of it, so I'll just share all the different angles that I did take.

We had gotten so used to not having glass there and being able to walk through the doors that, once the glass went up, we put up blue painter's tape to keep us from walking through the doors!

Next on the list is to actually get some furniture for the outdoor living room.

...but I'm afraid that's taking a back burner to the nursery for now. We'll get it done eventually :)



 I can't wait till the weather warms back up (next year) and we can close off the house and open up the outside doors to the pool! I have a feeling this will be quite the hang out spot...since it will be our only shade!

I do love our new doors and I know sweet Husband is thankful to have this crossed off his project list! Thanks, Love! You're the best!

Baby Adams: week 19

Seriously, guys, I'm feeling great! Could this really be the end of sickness and time for me to actually feel like a real person again? I pray the answer to that is YEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!! The baby has finally decided to make his/her presence known and make my clothes a little snugger.

Now that I'm feeling human, I've got the itch to start getting ready for this baby! Husband and I did a bit of rearranging and are beginning project nursery. This project involves turning the office into a nursery.

Poor office. You never really had the chance to be a real office.

We moved the old table that we used as a desk and the glass cases out.

The desk table is now the foyer table...with delicious smelling pumpkin spice candles! I do need to work on some other pictures or something more for this rather large table. Any decor suggestions? I need a weekend project :)

Oh, and while I'm at it...You may have noticed in G's birthday pictures that we now have a dining room table! It is an antique table that we scored from a good friend when she decided to move. The top needs to be refinished, but in the mean time we just covered it with this table cloth. We'd also like to recover the chairs so that they'll match our dining room, but we'll get to that one day :)

For now, I'm jut thankful for a place to dine!

We also have bar stools now too, but I didn't take a picture of that.

We folded down the sides of this breakfast nook table and moved it into our bedroom.

Next up, installing some stained glass doors...then we can start baby stuff.

Sunflowers and Swimming

One of our favorite things from the old house happens to be our Giant Sunflowers in the garden. We planted them several years ago and they kept on coming back. These guys were huge...at least 7 feet tall with THE most beautiful sunflowers ever! G even sold some of the blooms at the farmers market. They were so much fun that we knew we had to plant some at the new house.

We bought a bunch of different sizes and colors of sunflowers this year and mixed them all up. We're just going to be surprised at what comes up and where! We also decided to toss in a few Zinnias too. Why not?! Flowers make people happy :)

Husband prepared the planting zones and G was in charge of seed placement.

Louie the cat, who is officially a member of the family, even joined in. As soon as the pine straw was raked back, he would run and dive in the midle of the pile and make a mess.

When all of our little seeds were in the ground, G asked to go swimming. Mind you, it was just a tad chilly that night AND the water is still freezing!!! We said sure, thinking that she wouldn't really do it.

She proudly marched to the top of the diving rocks and asked one last time, "Really? I can go swimming?"

To which I, in my snuggie, yelled back "go for it," thinking she was just testing me. I mean it was freezing! 

Then she jumped in! ...and stayed in for a while just to prove it wasn't cold. Clearly 11 year-olds have a different bodily thermostat than I do!!!

Settled

I am truly thankful to actually be living in this house! What is one of the most fun parts of moving in?  Friends popping in to check things out! I love having people over and this gives everyone a great excuse to have to come see us! AND, even better,  they expect things to be messy because you just moved in! Love it! Now, just how long am I allowed to use this expectation?

Husband has put "raindrop glass" in all the upper cabinet doors. I know he loves my technical terms for his glass and will cringe if he ever reads this. (Sorry, Love!) He tells me this glass is temporary until he can make something else, but I really love the raindrops.  What do you think?

As you can see here, we still have a few cabinet doors that are being painted, but those should be finished and installed soon. I didn't let that stop me from unpacking and staring at open cabinets.

Books are out of boxes and onto shelves. Yes! Shelves! Something we didn't have in the old house.

I'm not really sure why we didn't have any shelves. I mean, I'm a fan of books...and shelves. One day I'd love to have a bookcase with our books grouped by color.

Until that happens, I'll just daydream about this:

Not my house. I repeat. Not my house.

The first pictures have been hung!!!  

I confess, we've had those frames for about 3 years. They were pewter-colored and had ugly water color prints in them. Husband brushed them with white paint so that, now, they're mostly white with just a hint of the metal color shining through. The prints were removed and I had these pictures of the girls enlarged to fit the matte. A level, ladder, and stud finder later...they were hung!

  

Our room is starting to come together. Once upon a time, the headboard was actually a door. I'm not sure how long it sat (abandoned) in the basement of the Glass Studio, but Husband re-discovered it and spruced it up a bit. I thought I was just marrying an accountant yawn but little did I realize all of his DIY talents.

The bedside tables are the same but we decided to paint them white to give them a fresh start in their new room. The boxes that I haven't unpacked yet are stashed in storage under the window seat.

We're getting used to life in the new bathroom. At 5am it is still a struggle to remember where I've put things. I will say that I am LOVING the his/her toothpaste drawers! One thing we can never seem to agree on is where to squeeze the toothpaste. I'm a start-from-the-bottom kind of girl and Husband just grabs it from where ever.

The closet is one piece of trim away from being from being complete, so we're still living out of suitcases. Our clothes will be the last thing to finally move from the old house. Above is the "His" side of the closet. Apparently I forgot to take a "Hers" picture, but it is basically the same...the only difference is that I have shelves going all the way up the middle instead of the chest of drawers. The bottom shelves slant downward so that I can use them as shoe racks.

The office furniture has been placed and I hope it never has to be moved again. Or, if it does need to be moved, I hope there is a strong guy taking my place in the moving process.

Any guesses as to which side of the desk is mine? :)

We painted one of our old tables and gave it a new home in the foyer.

I have been getting my workout keeping the dust off these floors!

Husband worked last week at the Glass Studio to wrap up the bathroom windows and I really love how they turned out.

Now, before you think that I've got my act completely together and that we're totally settled after just two weeks...What do you think about the dining room? :)

At least one of us is completely settled into his new home.

22 pictures is worth 22,000 words

As of Wednesday, February 16th, our house was completely normal. Not a box was packed. We did have a garage full of boxes...we just hadn't had the time to do anything about them. Husband and I took that Thursday and Friday off to do some serious work.

By Friday we'd accomplished a lot, but there was still a ways to go. Thankfully, my parents came down and helped me box up the rest while Husband worked at the new house. Move in day was fast upon us and there were still a few loose ends. 

And by loose ends, I mean we had no kitchen cabinets, no drawers anywhere in the house, no shelving in the master closet, and the painters were still in and out. I'll admit, all this caused me to have a tiny, little breakdown. I was seriously bummed out. Everything was supposed to be finished. We had lined up family and friends and sorority girls seeking community service hours to help us move....

Ready or not, we were moving.

 

Our families and friends helped us to load our belongings onto trucks, trailers and a 15 passenger van.

Another wonderful group of family and friends provided lunch for us. It was such a blessing not to have to stop and think about getting lunch for everyone!!

The weather couldn't have been any better and the deck proved to be just the hang out spot that we'd always imagined.

Look who showed up to help welcome us home! Louie the cat, who is quickly becoming a part of our (outside) family.

We have an awesome friend with a landscaping business that also joined in and helped us pick out and plant all of our landscaping. These plants were just the finishing touch that we needed to make things look homier.

Now I can't wait for the grass to turn green!

Yes, the pool now has water!!! A few tiny feet have already tested the waters and cannot wait for things to warm up a bit so they can jump in for real!

It felt good to have all of our things in the new house even if they were still in boxes.

Lots and lots of boxes. The dining room looked like a storage unit. We lived out of these boxes for about a week until all the drawers and cabinets were installed. It was like camping...but with toilets and showers.

Oh, and I know NONE of you will believe it, but I did do my fair share of heavy lifting. I impressed myself!! We've got some heavy stuff...one being that tv cabinet in the back of this picture below...and I helped move a lot of it. Of course I didn't think to get pictures of that, so you'll just have to take my word for it!

Thank goodness for these double doors. It was much easier getting things in this house than out of the old one!

By the end of the weekend we had the living room set up and things were starting to look like a home!

Diva had her room set up in no time! The bright green walls were the perfect compliment to her polka dotted comforter.

She decided to bring in a little zebra print for her bathroom.

G had a few boxes left, but was excited to finally get to decorate her chocolate room.

She opted for polka dots in her bathroom too. Even Polka Dot (the frog) got a new crib...but you'll have to wait on that one.

By the time we got the girls' beds set up, Husband and I were too exhausted to finish our own room so we camped out on the floor for the first night.

We are so thankful to finally be living in our new house...drawers or no drawers! Thank you to our fabulous families and friends that gave up their weekends to help to pack, lift, load, unload, cook, clean, pressure wash, plant... We couldn't have done it without you and we are blessed to have you in our lives. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! We love you!
